Ndaba Gaolathe Biography

Ndaba Gaolathe is a well-known economist and politician from Botswana. He is currently serving as the vice president of the Umbrella for Democratic Change (UDC), a prominent opposition coalition in the country. Gaolathe was born and raised in Gaborone, Botswana, and has a strong educational background in economics and mathematics. He holds a BA in Economics and a BSc in Mathematics from George Washington University and an MBA in Finance from the prestigious Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania​

Before his political career, Gaolathe worked in various sectors, including asset management and strategic consulting. He has been instrumental in promoting economic development and job creation in Botswana​

. In politics, Gaolathe is the founder of the Alliance for Progressives (AP), a party he established after leaving the Botswana Movement for Democracy (BMD) due to internal conflicts. However, in 2024, he rejoined the UDC to strengthen the opposition ahead of the national elections​.

Gaolathe is admired for his calm and diplomatic leadership style, often described as "soft idealism." He is particularly known for his focus on economic growth, transparency, and fostering unity within the opposition​
